When I entered the ordained ministry after a long career in the graphic arts field, I looked for a way to combine my two passions for preaching and painting. Inspired by a childhood remembrance of a visiting chalk art evangelist, I decided to develop what I call art sermons. Rather than using chalk, I decided to rely on my extensive experience as a pastel artist to create quick paintings during my sermon.
I believe that the combination of word, art and music uniquely speaks to both the heart and mind, creating a multi-sensory experience that is both entertaining and inspiring. I have found that my art sermons appeal to all ages, and, to a culture that is visually and musically oriented, they also speak their language.
I have created a few example art sermons on my YouTube Channel. These art sermons do not include the music (due to copyright restrictions) so they are a little different (and much shorter) than the art sermons I do in church services and other events.
Here is a schedule of upcoming art sermons: (subject to change)
